Chapter 7
My foot has been driving me crazy all day. It’s so itchy. Is that normal?” Tammy asked Clark as he drove her home Wednesday night.
“It’s actually a good sign that your foot is healing. As annoying as it is. It shouldn’t last too long.”
Tammy laughed. “I hope not.”
When he parked the car, she asked, “Would you like to stay for dinner? I have a big pot of spaghetti sauce with meatballs and sausages—my grandmother’s recipe.” She’d made it Monday night when she got home from her date with Andrew, and had been planning to ask Clark the night before on their way home, but before she had a chance to offer, he said he’d just eaten and was heading over to the rink for hockey practice. The sauce tended to get better when it sat in the refrigerator anyway. The flavors blended together and improved.
“Oh, I wish I could. That sounds amazing. I’m on way to the rink for hockey again though, and I ate a quick sandwich before I left.”
“Oh, that’s fine. Another time then. I just wanted to thank you for the pizza the other night and for driving me around.”
“No thanks necessary.” Clark grinned. “But, I’d gladly take you up on that offer another time.
When he dropped her off, Tammy went into the kitchen and heated up a big bowl of the pasta. Cooking always relaxed her but it was easier to just heat stuff up when she got home instead of cooking from scratch every night.
After she was done eating, she packed up the rest of the sauce and froze it in individual serving sizes. After she finished cleaning up in the kitchen, she settled on her comfy living room sofa and turned on her computer.
There was a message from Andrew saying that he was going to call about the weekend but realized they hadn’t exchanged phone numbers so he was writing instead. He asked if Friday night at the Italian restaurant downtown would work for her? If yes, he said he’d come by to get her at the bookstore and they could head out from there.
Tammy replied back that it was fine with her and she sighed. She wished that she was more excited about this date with Andrew. She hated to repeat the same pattern of his other dates. So, she was going to try to see if there could be a spark. She was just about to log off when another email came from Soulmates with a list of recommended matches for her. She was curious to see who the site thought would be perfect for her and she clicked through the list. None of them stirred her interest until she got to the very last one, from someone who went by the nickname of Coach. She was intrigued by the introduction.
Confession—This isn’t Coach. It’s his sister. Coach finally gave me permission to post this—sort of. He lost a bet with me, and I held him to it. But I’m not sure he thought I’d really go through with it.
